Flower Power was founded to solve a quiet frustration shared by Canadian cut-flower growers, florists, and passionate horticulturists: while plant breeders across France, Italy, Germany, Poland, and Japan continue to produce breathtaking, resilient flower varieties, only a minute fraction of that genetic diversity ever crosses Canadian borders.
Operating as the horticulture program of Biotech Inc in Woodbridge, Ontario, our work begins far beyond standard commercial distributors. We travel breeder catalogues country by country, meeting with independent hybridizers, family-run seed producers, and generational rootstock growers. We search for traits that matter: robust pedicels that support heavy flower heads, rich nuanced colorways that captivate floral designers, and vegetative vigor capable of withstanding shifting growing conditions.
Trialled in Ontario Before Release
Finding a promising variety overseas is merely step one. Canadian growing zones present singular demands—from humid southern Ontario summers to rapid spring frosts and freezing winters. We import candidate selections through official CFIA plant health frameworks, quarantine them responsibly, and evaluate them in our Woodbridge test plots.
We record germination benchmarks, days to bloom, stem rigidity, side-bud development, and post-harvest vase longevity. Only the proven performers—varieties that demonstrate reliable vigor and exceptional beauty on Canadian ground—make it into the Flower Power catalogue.
